Reportedly believing the eye contact to be suspicious, one officer got out of the car and walked down Marion Street to watch Locke. A second man, identified as Clark, joined Locke and they talked for several seconds. Police approached Locke and spoke with him, reportedly observing his eyes were bloodshot and his pupils constricted, which police believed indicated he was on an opiate.
Police also spoke with Clark and patted him down, reportedly discovering he had hypodermic needles. Locke was also searched, and police reportedly discovered several small blue bags believed to be heroin and two larger bags of white powder.

The car’s front passenger, whose identity was not released by the Brookline Police, reportedly gave his name as the owner of the vehicle, and told police they were parked in front of the house to talk. He reportedly said he did not want to wake his father. The passenger was issued a citation for allowing a person without a driver’s license to use his car, and was summonsed to court.
